Pre-Sales Engineer, SASE & Security · HPE

Engineer. Strategist. Trusted Advisor.

15+ years of experience in cybersecurity, SD-WAN, and network services — with a growing focus on how AI fits into network operations.

I am a Network and Security Infrastructure Engineer with 15+ years of experience spanning hands-on network engineering and pre-sales. I started my career designing and operating large-scale networks directly — including a global network supporting roughly 1,500 locations and 18,000+ users — before moving into pre-sales, where I've spent the past several years helping customers and channel partners design, demonstrate, and implement SD-WAN and SASE solutions.

More recently, I've been building the Universal Network Director — an approval-gated AI orchestration agent that governs MCP servers across multiple network vendors — HPE Aruba EdgeConnect (REST), Juniper (NETCONF), Proxmox (REST), and Cisco (CLI over SSH) — using the Anthropic API to let AI systems query and act on real infrastructure. Read-only requests pass through automatically; anything that changes live configuration requires my explicit approval before it executes. I'm actively expanding the integration set with MCP servers for Juniper Mist and Juniper Security Director Cloud, both REST-based. I build with Claude Code, applying my own network engineering background to the protocol integrations, safety design, and approval workflow — not a claim to have solved this, just genuine curiosity about where AI fits into network operations.

Networks have always been multivendor by necessity — no single platform covers everything. I think AI's real value here isn't replacing that reality, it's finally giving us a consistent way to see and operate across it, as long as the humans stay in control of anything that actually changes production infrastructure.

AI in Network Operations

A few things I think about when working on this.

🔌
Multivendor Complexity
Every vendor has its own API and protocol — REST, NETCONF, SSH/CLI. My orchestration gateway normalizes that across HPE, Juniper, Proxmox, and Cisco behind one interface.
🛡️
Guardrails Matter
Read access is low-risk. Write access to production infrastructure needs a human in the loop — my gateway auto-approves reads and requires my explicit sign-off on anything that changes config.
🔍
Better Visibility
Bandwidth trends, tunnel state, appliance health are often scattered across dashboards. Making that data queryable across vendors is a small but useful improvement.

Projects

Building an AI orchestration layer for multivendor network infrastructure — one integration at a time.

HPE ArubaREST
HPE EdgeConnect MCP Server

MCP server for HPE Aruba EdgeConnect Orchestrator over its REST API — exposes appliance status, interface and tunnel state, and WAN bandwidth data to AI systems, with read/write separation and secret redaction.

● Python View
JuniperNETCONF
Juniper Junos MCP Server

MCP server for Juniper devices running Junos, communicating over NETCONF — lets AI systems read device state and configuration, with changes routed through the Universal Network Director's approval workflow.

● Python View
CiscoSSH / CLI
Cisco IOS-XE MCP Server

MCP server for Cisco IOS-XE devices over CLI/SSH — surfaces device state to AI systems and passes any configuration changes through the approval-gated workflow rather than executing them directly.

● Python View
ProxmoxREST
Proxmox VE MCP Server

MCP server for Proxmox VE over its REST API — gives AI systems visibility into the virtualization environment behind the lab, with the same read-through / approval-gated-write model as the other integrations.

Juniper Mist MCP Server

Extending the director to Juniper Mist's REST API — in progress.

Work Experience

A track record spanning hands-on network engineering, pre-sales, and channel enablement.

November 2024 – Present
Pre-Sales Engineer, Overlay – SASE & Security
HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise)
  • Partner with product management to translate roadmap and feature updates into clear guidance for field teams — increasingly exploring, on my own initiative, how AI can help unify and simplify infrastructure management in multivendor environments.
  • Design and lead training workshops for field SEs on HPE's SASE and Security portfolio, turning complex product capabilities into practical, sellable talking points.
  • Guide customers through the full sales motion — discovery, live demos, proof-of-concepts, and post-sales implementation planning — for SASE and security initiatives.
November 2020 – November 2024
Channel Sales Engineer, SASE
HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise)
  • Led enablement workshops and technical sessions for teams of partner SEs, building their confidence to sell and support HPE's SASE portfolio independently.
  • Worked closely with product management to keep channel partners current on SASE roadmap and capabilities.
  • Helped HPE's #1 channel partner achieve their highest-ever SASE revenue attainment through hands-on strategic account support.
September 2016 – November 2020
Pre-Sales Engineer, SD-WAN
SilverPeak Systems (acquired by HPE in 2020)
  • Partnered with customers to plan, design, and implement SD-WAN architectures that simplified complex WAN topologies and improved end-user experience.
  • Supported the full sales cycle — discovery, demos, proof-of-concepts, and post-sales implementation planning — for SD-WAN deployments.
  • Collaborated across internal and customer teams to hit strategic and revenue targets.
January 2013 – August 2016
Senior Network Engineer
Agrium, Inc.
  • Supported Agrium's global network across roughly 1,500 locations and 18,000+ users worldwide.
  • Led a team of engineers that designed and implemented a new primary Cisco Nexus-based data center in North America.
  • Designed high-quality solution architecture standards for large campus network topologies.
January 2012 – January 2013
Network Engineer
Agrium, Inc.
  • Drove the integration of 300 new sites into Agrium's network following an acquisition, ensuring seamless connectivity across all locations.
  • Helped design and implement architecture for retrofitting Agrium's primary North American data center.
  • Contributed to the design and implementation of a new data center in Australia.
January 2011 – January 2012
Network Analyst
Agrium, Inc.
  • Monitored and supported Agrium's VPN infrastructure as part of the global Network Operations Center.
